Advanced and Executive Portfolio Programme

Portfolio Management

Translate strategy into disciplined investment choices, balanced capacity, dynamic priorities and evidence-based executive decisions.

Manage the portfolio as a dynamic system of choices—not a passive list of projects.

Portfolio Management develops the capability to select, balance, govern and continually adapt investments so that scarce resources remain aligned with strategy, value, risk and organisational capacity.

The course integrates strategic alignment, prioritisation, investment cases, benefit confidence, portfolio risk, capacity constraints, dependencies, data quality and executive decision-making.

Participants work through an evolving portfolio case and produce a prioritisation model, capacity view, dependency map, portfolio dashboard, governance rhythm and dynamic reprioritisation recommendations.

What participants will be able to do.

By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Distinguish portfolio management from project and programme management and clarify the executive decisions unique to the portfolio level.
  • Translate strategy into transparent portfolio objectives, investment themes and selection criteria.
  • Design a proportionate prioritisation model that combines strategic alignment, value, risk, urgency, feasibility and benefit confidence.
  • Evaluate investment proposals using consistent evidence, assumptions and decision records without reducing judgement to a mechanical score.
  • Assess resource capacity, capability constraints, funding limits and delivery bottlenecks across the portfolio.
  • Map project and programme dependencies, shared resources, enabling initiatives and combined-value effects.
  • Balance the portfolio across time horizons, risk levels, strategic themes, mandatory work and innovation.
  • Use scenario comparison and portfolio risk analysis to test robustness under changing assumptions and constraints.
  • Design decision-useful dashboards, review forums, escalation routes and an executive governance rhythm.
  • Make and communicate dynamic start, continue, accelerate, defer, combine, narrow or stop decisions.

Designed for professionals responsible for investment choices, strategic alignment and enterprise capacity.

  • Portfolio directors and managers.
  • PMO and enterprise PMO leaders.
  • Strategy, transformation and investment professionals.
  • Programme directors and senior project sponsors.
  • Finance, benefits and performance professionals.
  • Executives serving on portfolio and investment governance forums.

Advanced, practical and executive focused.

  • Meaningful experience of projects, programmes, PMOs, strategy or investment governance is recommended.
  • Participants should understand basic business-case, risk, benefits and governance concepts.
  • No specialist quantitative qualification is required.
  • Corporate cohorts may use a current or representative organisational portfolio as the principal case.

Five integrated modules from strategic intent and prioritisation to capacity, balance, governance and dynamic decisions.

The programme follows a complete portfolio decision cycle and uses one evolving case to connect investment proposals, resource constraints, dependencies, risks and executive choices.

Course information and participation.

How is this different from Benefits Realisation and Value Delivery?

Benefits Realisation focuses on defining, owning, measuring and sustaining benefits. Portfolio Management uses benefit evidence alongside strategy, risk, capacity and dependencies to make investment choices.

How is this different from Decision Analysis for Project Managers?

Decision Analysis teaches analytical methods in depth. Portfolio Management uses selected decision outputs within enterprise investment, capacity and governance choices.

Does the course include project selection techniques?

Yes. The approved reusable strategic content from the former standalone Project Selection Techniques course is integrated into prioritisation, capacity, scenario and executive decision modules.

Can the programme use our live portfolio?

Yes. Corporate delivery can use anonymised portfolio data, current criteria, governance forums and capacity challenges where suitable.

Does this course prepare participants for the PfMP® certification?

This programme develops advanced portfolio-management capabilities across strategic alignment, governance, portfolio performance, portfolio risk and executive communication. These capabilities are relevant to the Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP)® certification, but this is not a dedicated certification-preparation course. Experienced professionals seeking structured eligibility, application, panel-review and examination preparation should attend INDENTRA’s separate PfMP® Certification Preparation programme.

Preparing for PfMP® Certification?

Explore INDENTRA’s dedicated PfMP® Certification Preparation programme for eligibility review, application evidence, panel-review readiness, domain-based learning, scenario practice and mock-exam preparation.

Make portfolio choices that remain credible when strategy and capacity change.

Discuss public delivery, an executive portfolio cohort or a tailored programme built around your organisation’s investment and governance environment.

INDENTRA may adapt sequencing, exercises and examples to suit the delivery format and participant profile while preserving the stated learning outcomes.
