Trainer and Facilitation Excellence Programme

Train-the-Trainer and Facilitation Excellence

Facilitate engaging classroom and virtual learning with structure, confidence, participation, feedback and adaptive judgement.

Develop facilitators who can create learning—not simply deliver slides.

Train-the-Trainer and Facilitation Excellence develops the practical behaviours required to prepare, facilitate and improve instructor-led learning. It positions the trainer as a designer of attention, participation, practice, reflection and feedback rather than a presenter of information.

Participants practise explanation, questioning, listening, activity facilitation, debriefing and adaptive responses to different learner needs. They also learn how to manage time, energy, resistance, dominant or quiet participants, difficult questions and common technology problems.

The course includes repeated micro-facilitation practice with structured feedback so participants can observe their own habits, strengthen confidence and develop a personal improvement plan.

What participants will be able to do.

  • Prepare a facilitator plan aligned with learning outcomes, activities and timing.
  • Open sessions clearly and establish relevance, expectations and participation norms.
  • Explain concepts concisely using examples, demonstrations and visual support.
  • Use questions, listening and discussion to deepen learner thinking.
  • Facilitate activities, cases, exercises and debriefs with purpose.
  • Give constructive feedback that helps participants improve performance.
  • Adapt pace, explanation and support to learner needs without losing outcomes.
  • Manage difficult questions, resistance, low participation and dominant behaviour.
  • Facilitate effectively in live virtual environments using appropriate interaction.
  • Use observation and self-review to create an evidence-based development plan.

Designed for professionals who need practical, context-aware L&D capability.

  • New and experienced trainers and facilitators.
  • Subject-matter experts who deliver professional learning.
  • Internal academy faculty and technical instructors.
  • Managers and professionals who regularly teach workshops or development sessions.
  • Learning teams responsible for facilitator quality and consistency.

Professionally relevant and application-focused.

No formal trainer qualification is required. Participants should prepare a short topic they can use for micro-facilitation practice.

A five-Module learning and development journey.

The sequence develops understanding, application and practical outputs progressively across five connected Modules.

  • Clear explanation and examples
  • Question types and sequencing
  • Active listening and follow-up
  • Checking understanding without embarrassment
3

Module 3

Participation, Activities and Debriefing

  • Designing participation intentionally
  • Facilitating pairs, groups, cases and exercises
  • Observation and in-session feedback
  • Debriefing from experience to learning
4

Module 4

Challenging Situations and Virtual Facilitation

  • Resistance, silence and dominant participants
  • Difficult questions and disagreement
  • Time, energy and group dynamics
  • Virtual tools, breakout rooms and contingency planning
5

Module 5

Micro-Facilitation, Feedback and Development

  • Observed practice sessions
  • Structured peer and trainer feedback
  • Self-review and behavioural goals
  • Personal facilitation development plan

Move from understanding to application, production and workplace value.

Prepare

Design the session

Plan outcomes, flow, activities, questions, timing and contingencies before facilitation begins.

Facilitate

Practise real delivery behaviours

Explain, question, listen, observe, adapt and manage participation.

Debrief

Turn activity into learning

Help participants interpret experience, connect concepts and identify application.

Respond

Handle challenging moments

Practise resistance, difficult questions, low participation, time pressure and virtual disruption.

Improve

Use observed evidence

Apply structured feedback from repeated practice to a personal trainer development plan.

Demonstrate participation, application and professional judgement.

  • Participate in facilitation drills, role plays and debrief exercises.
  • Prepare and deliver the required micro-teaching/facilitation segment.
  • Give and receive structured peer feedback.
  • Complete a final self-review and trainer development plan.

Leave with practical L&D artefacts.

  • Facilitator session plan.
  • Questioning and discussion plan.
  • Activity and debrief design.
  • Virtual facilitation checklist.
  • Observed-practice feedback record.
  • Personal trainer development plan.

Course information and participation.

Is this course only for full-time professional trainers?

No. It is also suitable for subject-matter experts, managers and internal faculty who facilitate learning as part of their role.

Will participants have to deliver a practice session?

Yes. Repeated observed practice is central to the course because facilitation capability develops through application and feedback.

Does the course cover virtual delivery?

Yes. Participants practise virtual facilitation choices, interaction, breakout-room use, pacing and contingency planning.

Does the programme teach presentation skills?

Presentation is included, but the emphasis is broader: learner participation, questioning, practice, feedback, debriefing and adaptive facilitation.

Can corporate delivery use our internal facilitator standards?

Yes. The programme can align observation criteria, templates, delivery standards and examples with your academy or faculty model.

Develop trainers who create participation, practice, reflection and real learning.

Discuss a Train-the-Trainer cohort for internal faculty, technical experts, managers or professional facilitators.
